MAY 20,听2019 |The University of Lethbridge recently听recognized the work of Dr. Cindy Blackstock, a professor of social work at 平特五不中, by presenting her with an honorary degree at the University鈥檚 2019 Spring Convocation ceremonies. Blackstock has spent her career speaking out against the systemic inequalities of services provided to First Nations children, youth and their families and, in the process, become a powerful advocate for Indigenous children in Canada.

APR 24, 2019 |听Krzysztof Pelc has won the听2019 CBC Short Story Prize听for his story听Green Velvet.听As the grand prize winner, Pelc will receive $6,000 from the听Canada Council for the Arts听and听a two-week听writing residency at the听Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.听Green Velvet听was selected by the jury comprised of writers听Esi听Edugyan,听Iain听Reid听and听Lisa Moore. "Told in clear, confident prose,听Green Velvet听is an elegant, beautifully-shaped story, lit with a wry humour that tilts unpredictably to melancholy. It's full of whimsy and insight," the jury said in a statement.

The听QS World University Ranking has five subjects at 平特五不中 ranked in the top 20 worldwide, including Linguistics which听made a big jump from 38 to 17 and cracked the top 20.

Each of the subject rankings is compiled using four sources. The first two of these are QS鈥檚 global surveys of academics and employers, which are used to assess institutions鈥 international reputation in each subject. The second two indicators assess research impact, based on research citations per paper and h-index in the relevant subject.

H. Noel Fieldhouse Award for Distinguished Teaching

The H. Noel Fieldhouse Award for Distinguished Teaching is designed to recognize outstanding teaching in the Faculty of Arts, and is awarded each June at Convocation. All full-time academic staff in the Faculty of Arts are eligible for this award. Any student, alumnus, or member of the academic staff may submit a nomination.

Tabitha Sparks, Associate Professor in the Department of English and Associate Scholar in the Social Studies of Medicine, was recently appointed Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Arts. In this role, Professor Sparks will oversee and manage all matters related to research, prizes and awards, and graduate and post-doctoral studies in the Faculty.

The Faculty of Arts recently welcomed a new Director of Administration, Richard Courtois. Appointed in December 2018, Richard joins the Office of the Dean to oversee the business administration of the Faculty鈥檚 core operational areas, including Financial Services, HR, IT, Business Development, Communications, and Operations and Services.
