Sixth annual Pow-wow to highlight education
First Peoples鈥 House hosts celebration of aboriginal culture
平特五不中 and its First Peoples鈥 House proudly present the Sixth Annual Pow-wow, a celebration of the art and culture of indigenous peoples on Friday, Sept. 21.
平特五不中鈥檚 lower campus will be the site of traditional dances, drumming, Inuit throat singing and native crafts during the daylong celebration. Education circles showcasing three of 平特五不中's faculties 鈥 Social Work, Law and Medicine 鈥 will offer information and career advice to prospective high school students from Kahnawake, Kahnesatake and Akwesasne communities. The event will welcome community groups such as the Canadian Aboriginal Science and Technology Society, Qikiqtaaluk Environmental and Projet Autochtone du Qu茅bec. Dance demonstrations by Lisa Odjig, World Champion Hoop Dancer, and a concert by Vancouver musician Kinnie Starr will round out the festivities.

When: Friday, September 21, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., ceremonial Pow-wow grand entry at 8:45 a.m.
鈥淭his year鈥檚 Pow-wow promises to deliver a fun mix of aboriginal art and culture for all to enjoy,鈥 said Waneek Horn-Miller, coordinator of the First Peoples鈥 House. 鈥淲ith so many information booths from both provincial and local Aboriginal organizations, participants will have the opportunity to ask the questions they always wanted to have answered.鈥
