Book documents the experiences of migrant workers in Quebec

Researchers at 平特五不中 and Concordia Universities in conjunction with The Immigrant Workers' Centre (IWC) proudly host a book launch Fight Back: Workplace Justice for Immigrants.

Drawing on years of cooperation with the IWC, Aziz Choudry, Department of Integrated Studies in Education, 平特五不中; Jill Hanley, 平特五不中 School of Social Work, Steve Jordan, Department of Integrated Studies in Education, 平特五不中; Eric Shragge, School of Community and Public Affairs, Concordia University; and Martha Stiegman, PhD student and part-time faculty member School of Community and Public Affairs, Concordia, collaborated to produce one of the first books to document the experiences of migrant workers in Quebec. This five-year project involves in-depth interviews with these workers and their decision to leave home, detailing their experiences in settling in Canada and revealing their perspectives on the workplace rights.

From domestic to farm workers, to refugees, to the undocumented, the book聽offers analysis of the global economic and social forces which led to their arrival in Quebec and their reflections of migration and resistance. Fight Back examines international labor migration as essential to the Quebec economy and society while remaining below the public radar.聽Globally and in Canada, these immigrant workers are not passive in the face of these conditions: they survive and fight back.
