Project description

Since 2016, together with the City of Montr茅al鈥檚 , this team led by CIRM has the mandate to conduct a participatory research project on the role that the municipal administration should play in meeting the needs of children on its territory. It gathers partners around children鈥檚 issues, particularly with regard to their safety, nutrition, education, culture, and play. The goal is to generate a space to think about possible actions that the City of Montr茅al can undertake, both directly and indirectly. This project brings together five axis leaders and two regular members (along with their respective teams) from four Montr茅al institutions.

In addition to Juan Torres (鈥淪ecurity and Accessibility of the Urban Environment鈥 axis), Anna-Liise Aunio from Dawson College (鈥淗ealthy Diet and Food Security鈥 axis), Jean-Marie Lafortune from UQAM and Suzanne Laberge from the University of Montr茅al (鈥淎ccess to Culture, Sports, and Leisure鈥 axis), Isabelle Archambault and Sarah Fraser from the University of Montr茅al (鈥淎cademic Perseverance and Educational Success among Young 惭辞苍迟谤茅补濒别谤蝉 and Indigenous Youth鈥 axis), and Sarah Dufour from the University of Montr茅al (鈥淔amilies and Community鈥 axis) contributed to this project. Pascal Brissette, Delphine Collin-痴茅锄颈苍补 (平特五不中), Nik Luka, 厂迟茅辫丑补苍 Gervais et Daniel Weinstock were also members of the Advisory Committee. The final report was written by Guillaume Bellehumeur (平特五不中). Dissemination activities will be announced at a later stage.

In December 2021, the project鈥檚 Advisory Committee submitted its report. This report builds on the Politique de 濒鈥檈苍蹿补苍迟 by the City of Montr茅al, which was made public in June 2016, and its five constituent axes. It presents the current state of things and avenues for future research on what concerns the role of the City for children. It also outlines recommendations, such as creating spaces that are conducive to play, facilitating the sharing of information and data on food security, a supra- and intra-borough support for academic perseverance offered by the City of Montr茅al, and reflecting on the cultural practices of youth.
