Workshop: Acquiring data from the internet in R

Workshop Overview:聽The internet is full of data that you can use for your analysis. As part of our data life cycle series, we will introduce you to efficiently retrieve data from the internet. We will look into downloading files, using APIs, web-scraping, and downloading feeds.

At the end of this workshop, you will be able to
聽聽 - use an API
聽聽 - understand ethical web-scraping (i.e. how to download data from a website)
聽聽 - understand how to work with RSS feeds

Prerequisites:
聽聽聽聽路 Introductory knowledge of R, e.g. from聽Introduction to programming in R, or聽平特五不中 R summer camp.
聽聽 聽路 Install R and RStudio on your computer. You can find installation instructions聽here. Please contact us (cdsi.science [at] mcgill.ca) if you are having trouble with installation.
聽聽 聽路 You need to bring your own laptop for this workshop. Contact us if you would like to attend but it's impossible for you to bring a laptop.

Location: HYBRID. Online via Zoom, or in-person at room 1104 (11th floor).
