Appropriate Lab Safety Attire

With the onset of warm, sunny weather, it is important to remember that when working in the lab, you must be wearing closed shoes, pants/skirt 聽that completely covers the legs, a lab coat, gloves and appropriate eye protection.

Phenol is just as dangerous in July as it is in December. Walking up to the lab in temperatures over 30掳C is understandably uncomfortable, but there are ways to cope.

Keeping a pair of closed shoes and pants in the lab to change into when you arrive is one popular option. Other labs actually purchase hospital scrubs to wear over shorts in order to adequately cover bare legs.

These are available from several suppliers, such as Fisher and VWR.

Have a SAFE summer!
