Abdominal aortic aneurysm is much common in men then women and are more common as we got older into our 60鈥檚 and 70鈥檚. Usually abdominal aneurysm is located in the upper abdomen between the sternum and the umbilicus and sometimes it can extend where the aorta splits to supply both legs with bloods.

Most people are unaware that they have an abdominal aneurysm. However, as aneurysm grow, you may feel:

  • Pulsating pulse or tender mass felt by physician when performing physical examination
  • Pain in the back, abdomen
  • Light headedness
  • If a rupture occurs, you will experience a sudden onset of severe belly pain associated with other symptoms such as loss of consciousness or shock

What are the risk factors that may predispose to abdominal aneurysm?

  • Smoking
  • Heredity
  • Injury
  • Infection
  • High blood pressure
  • Arteriosclerosis
  • High cholesterol

Since abdominal is a major health that may not have related symptoms until a life-threatening event occurs, a preventive screening with an abdominal ultrasound is recommended.
