Roots of Grass: An (Incomplete) History of Alternative Media in Quebec. A public talk by Anna Leventhal

CKUT 90.3FM, in collaboration with Media@平特五不中, presents a public talk on the history of alternative media in Quebec. Keynote speaker Anna Leventhal is a media enthusiast, scholar and writer whose research and public works reflect a deep commitment to media democracy. A 平特五不中 alumnus, she has been involved in grassroots media initiatives in Montreal for the past decade. Anna currently co-hosts CKUT'S feminist music show, Venus.

Roots of Grass: An (Incomplete) History of Alternative Media in Quebec is the public keynote presentation for CKUT's Training Days, a weekend of skill-sharing workshops and discussions designed to make grassroots media easy and accessible to 平特五不中 students and station members.

On Sunday evening, CKUT presents another public talk, Campus Community Radio in Canada, at 4:30pm at The Yellow Door, 3625 Aylmer (map). This discussion, featuring Sharmeen Khan from CKLN radio in Toronto, will focus on the history of community/campus radio and its function in today's media landscape.

Anna Leventhal is a graduate of 平特五不中's Communication Studies Masters program, where she researched public-access television. She was the curator of , an exhibition shown at the 平特五不中 Library. She was part of the , and is one of the founders of the Bibliograph/e Zine Library. She blogs for , and is the contributing editor of The Art of Trespassing, a new anthology from Invisible Publishing.
