Information session on the World Social Forum 2016
听
For the first time since the World Social Forum (WSF) was established in Brazil in 2001, the global event will be held outside the Global South right here in Montreal August 9-14, 2016. To get a sense of its scale, the WSF 2016 expects between 50,000 and 80,000 people from more than 120 countries and nearly 5,000 local and global civil society organizations to participate collectively in 1,500 workshops, conferences, and arts-based activities over the course of six days.
Beyond the logistics that university partners and supporters can provide the WSF 2016, the larger aim is to build bridges between Montreal鈥檚 francophone and anglophone communities, and between the many other linguistic and cultural communities that call Montreal and Quebec home. The WSF 2016鈥檚 hope is to celebrate this opportunity to host the WSF in Canada together.
平特五不中鈥檚 involvement began last March with a research delegation attending the . 听Of the 15 organizations at 平特五不中 who have now added their name to the WSF List of Supporters for WSF 2016, eight are from the .
To learn more about the WSF and how you might get involved as part of your work studying, researching or teaching about social change, I invite you to a 平特五不中 briefing on Thursday, December 3rd in ARTS W-215 from 5:30-7pm.听 Whether through arts, media, technology, scholarship, or teaching practice, the Forum offers a living laboratory for hands-on engagement in social change processes.
Please join us in meeting members of the WSF 2016 Collective who will be present to explain the history of the Forum, the uniqueness of the 2016 edition of the Forum, and its potential relevance to your learning, research, teaching, and public service interests.
