Overview

If you are passionate about medical sciences and motivated by helping people improve their quality of life, physiotherapy (also known as physical therapy) may be the right field of study for you. The physiotherapist is a client-focused health care professional who uses exercise, physical modalities, manual therapy approaches, assistive devices, education and lifestyle management to improve people鈥檚 mobility, physical activity and overall health and well-being.

With its energetic, dedicated faculty and tradition of excellence in education, research and service, the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy will prepare you to become an innovative health care practitioner. Small discussion groups, an interdisciplinary focus, varied clinical fieldwork placements, as well as opportunities for undergraduate research experience will help you gain the skills necessary to establish yourself as a highly competent, life-long learner able to meet the standards of the profession.

The BSc. Rehabilitation Science in Physical Therapy Major program provides you with the basic health sciences foundation and undergraduate level courses specific to the practice of Physiotherapy. The curriculum emphasizes clinical reasoning, diagnostics, evidence-based practice, community rehabilitation, teamwork and professionalism as essential components for the development of a humanistic, ethical, knowledgeable, competent, critical thinking and problem-solving physiotherapist.


Careers

Physiotherapists contribute to multidisciplinary teams through patient evaluation, treatment planning and delivery, education, research and consultation in clinics, industry and the community. Becoming a physiotherapist holds excellent job prospects. With a rapidly aging global population, demand for physiotherapists will continue to increase over the coming years.

The BSc. Rehabilitation Science in Physical Therapy Major program is a 90-credit degree which provides access to the 63-credit Master of Science聽(Applied) in聽Physical Therapy degree. Upon successful completion of the Master of Science (Applied) in聽Physical Therapy, you can become a professional:

Physical Therapist / Physiotherapist, working in any or the following domains:

  • Research Physical Therapist
  • Clinical Physical Therapist
  • Sports Physical Therapist
  • In-patient/ICU Physical Therapist
  • Home Care Physical Therapist

Faculty

The 平特五不中 Physiotherapy Program faculty are a combination of professors, clinicians and researchers in the field who teach the latest evidence-based material to future health care professionals. Many of our faculty are involved in research programs.

Student experience

Students in the undergraduate physiotherapy program at 平特五不中 have a unique opportunity to learn with occupational therapy students as the two programs are housed in the same buildings. The buildings are situated on the upper campus, a few meters away from walking paths to Mount Royal.

The Physical and Occupational Therapy Undergraduate Society (POTUS) is an active student-operated council organizing student social events as well as events linking professors and clinicians in the field of occupational therapy.

This program is also offered by extension at the Universit茅聽du Qu茅bec 脿聽Chicoutimi (UQAC).
