Ecological Determinants of Health in Society

Overview

The relationship between human health and environment听is a complex, developing field.听While听the study of health often falls within the health sciences, the social sciences听also听play an important role听in the design, implementation, and monitoring of interventions听within听societies.听听

Demographic patterns and urbanization, economic forces, ethics, indigenous knowledge, and an understanding of how social change听is put into action听are all critical if we are to be successful in our efforts to assure health of individuals and societies in the future.

Students in the BA Faculty Program in Environment have the option to pursue the Ecological Determinants of Health in Society Domain, which explores听how the environment affects human health and health policy.听This Domain prepares students to contribute to the solution of problems of nutrition and infection by tying the relevant natural sciences to the social sciences.听
