Dr. Khwaja recently established and is the Director of Acute Care Surgery at the 平特五不中 Health Centre (MUHC) in Montreal, QC. He is also the Associate Director of the Trauma Program, and Director of Clinical Research in Critical Care at the MUHC. In 2012, Dr. Khwaja was appointed Director of MUHC Redevelopment for the Surgical Mission, and Associate Professor at 平特五不中.听

After completing his Trauma and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship in 2006, he pursued an Executive MBA at HEC Montr茅al in 2010, looking at optimizing patient flow at Level 1 Trauma Centers across Canada. Since 2007, he has served as Special Consultant to numerous Canadian federal agencies and committees, including the National Office of Health Emergency Response Team (NOHERT), the Health Emergency Response Readiness Review Committee (HER3C), the OERS Working Group on Ventilator Stockpile, as well as serving as the Public Health Agency of Canada鈥檚 representative on the Vancouver Olympics Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) Committee. Since 2012, he has been active in hospital network redevelopment in Montreal, using simulation models to predict resource allocation for surgical in-patient and ambulatory care across multi-site institutions.听

His international work has taken him to South America, Europe, Africa, Middle-East, South Asia, and he is a member of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Dr. Khwaja supervises basic science and outcome based research, has participated in a number of multi-institutional clinical trials and is a member of the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group. He is an active member of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST), participating in the development several EAST Practice Guidelines in trauma and acute care surgery听
