Overview
Sociology (Arts) : This course traces the historical development of the conflict between labor, capital, and the state over the meaning and content of democracy, and how that conflict has shaped politics, economics, and ideology over time. Through a combination of theoretical analysis of core concepts and empirical case studies, students will gain a sociological understanding of the complex forces that have shaped our modern world. Includes analysis of nation-state formation, class formation and class conflict, welfare state emergence and development, and labour unions and labour policy.
