Program Requirements
The Kindergarten and Elementary P茅dagogie de l'Immersion Fran莽aise major is designed to meet the needs of students enrolled in the B.Ed. Kindergarten and Elementary program who wish to teach in French immersion contexts. It consists of 30 credits of French and second language education courses embedded within the regular B.Ed. Kindergarten and Elementary program. In addition, certain other course sections may be offered in French.
Please note that graduates of teacher education programs are recommended by the University to the Quebec Ministry of Education for Quebec teacher certification. For more information about teacher certification in Quebec, please refer to the Faculty of Education section under "Overview of Faculty Programs," "Undergraduate Education Programs," and "Quebec Teacher Certification".
Competency in French
Students wishing to follow the Kindergarten and Elementary P茅dagogie de l'Immersion Fran莽aise major must demonstrate a sufficient level of competency in French by passing the written and oral French Language Proficiency Test (FLPT) set by the Department of Integrated Studies in Education.
P茅dagogie de l'Immersion Fran莽aise (PIF) Freshman Year (U0)
Candidates from outside of Quebec, are required to complete the Freshman en fran莽ais year (offered through the Faculty of Arts). Students undertaking the Freshman en fran莽ais year can also be conditionally accepted into the PIF program, if they have a strong background in French (ex. Grade 12 French Immersion Program) and achieve an acceptable grade in the French Language Proficiency Test (FLPT). For more information on the FLPT, including test dates, see /dise/progs/kelempif/prospective. Those students who are conditionally accepted will be transferred to the PIF program following successful completion of their freshman year (passing grade of B in FRSL courses). Unsuccessful candidates will remain registered in the regular B.Ed. Kindergarten/Elementary stream.
Students should contact advisedise.education [at] mcgill.ca to indicate their desire to transfer into this major and will subsequently be contacted with a testing date. The test must be passed for the transfer to be accepted/processed.

EDEC 215 English Exam for Teacher Certification
Overview
Curriculum and Instruction : The English Exam for Teacher Certification (EETC) is a Quebec Ministry of Education-required component of the B.Ed. degree. The exam is coordinated by an independent organization, the Centre for the English Exam for Teacher Certification (CEETC). Consists of a 2-hour exam designed to assess teacher candidates' competency in the language of instruction. Must be completed before the 3rd Field Experience. Students must register for EDEC 215 and register for the EETC on the CEETC website. Students who do not pass after four attempts require permission from the Internships & Student Affairs Office to re-take the exam.

Overview
Curriculum and Instruction : An exploration of Indigenous knowledge and pedagogy, primarily in Canada but also world-wide. MATH 111 Mathematics for Education Students (3 credits)
Overview
Mathematics & Statistics (Sci) : Sets and functions. Numeration systems. Whole numbers and integers, algorithms for whole-number computations, elementary number theory. Fractions and proportional reasoning. Real numbers, decimals and percents. A brief introduction to probability and statistics.
