Prof. Bertagnolli鈥檚 current research program focuses on elucidating mechanisms that can interrupt the formation of new blood vessels in the mother, placenta and growing fetus in pregnancies that are severely affected by hypertensive disorders such as pre-eclampsia. Her laboratory uses a translational approach with murine models and clinical samples to investigate the mechanisms and therapies, including exercise rehabilitation aimed at improving听vascularization and, ultimately, preventing disease in women and their children. Research interests include assessing endothelial and microvascular changes in hypertensive pregnancies and investigating the effects of cardiac and obstetric rehabilitation interventions for听these patients and their children.
