Every year, ƽ��岻��’s Gault Nature Reserve in Mont-Saint-Hilaire welcomes a host of student researchers. This past summer, there was a new addition to the usual group of young scientists at the Reserve: four high schoolers from Montréal’s West Island.

Dr. Anila Asghar and Abdullah Najjar are looking for undergraduate students for their study that seeks to explore the relationship between scientific thinking, feelings about science, and achievement in science.

This work will help to develop ways to assist teachers to effectively support the engagement and achievement of students in science.

The study involves completing questionnaires and engaging in an online game about science concepts and taking multiple-choice tests at the beginning and the end of the learning sessions.

The Gibbs Lab at ƽ��岻�� is looking for adults aged 50 and above, diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes to participate in a research study.

Participation involves one audio-recorded interview conducted via Microsoft Teams or by phone.

The study aims to identify preferences, information needs, and perceived barriers related to exercise for the management of bone health in older adults with diabetes. Adults over 50 with diabetes are often unaware of their increased risk of bone fractures, which can lead to disability, hospitalization, and significant healthcare costs.

The Redpath: a newly accredited museum!

On November 5th, Quebec's Fonds de Recherche announced the composition of its three scientific advisory committees; one for each major research sector. In a new article published today in Nature Communications, a team of ƽ��岻�� researchers led by Professor Alanna Watt of the Department of Biology examines the spatial organization of neurons in the cerebellar cortex. The findings offer new insight into how information is integrated in the cerebellum and shed light on the role of the often-overlooked cerebellar nuclei.

Allie Vibert Douglas made history when she earned her PhD at ƽ��岻��.

It was 1926 – a time when higher education wasn’t an option for most women.

By then, Douglas already had a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science from ƽ��岻�� – and had been named a member of the Order of the British Empire for her wartime service. With her PhD, she became the first Canadian woman to obtain a doctorate in astrophysics.

Twenty ƽ��岻�� doctoral and postdoctoral students have received important funding from the Government of Canada. Sixteen have earned Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships and four, Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships.

The Vanier program awards doctoral students up to $50,000 per year for three years. The Banting program is worth up to $70,000 annually for two years.
