Congratulations to Muhe Yang, PhD in Information Studies student at the School of Information Studies (ƽ��岻��), has received a Fonds de Recherche du Quebec; Nature et Technologies scholarship, for their research (French/English): Soutenir l'activité physique à un âge avancé : Co-conception de technologies de promotion de l'activité / Supporting Physical Activity in Later Life: Co-Design of Activity Promoting Technologies.

The FRQNT scholarship is awarded on basis of research and academic merit.

Muhe Yang was also awarded a Wolfe Chair fellowship in April.

Prof. Fung is a stellar researcher and holder of the CRC Chair in Data Mining for Cybersecurity. He has an outstanding and seemingly unstoppable successful track record in grantsmanship. He is also a highly valued teacher and mentor to our students as well as someone who is ever at the ready to contribute to the SIS, ƽ��岻�� and wider professional and practitioner communities. Our School is lucky to have him on board. Congratulations Prof Fung!

Prof. Kimiz Dalkir will be part of a collaborative project to help Canadian citizens critically assess and become resilient against harmful online disinformation: ”Développement et expérimentation d’outils éducatifs pour contrer la désinformation en ligne chez les jeunes adultes”. The $205,742 project is funded for two years (2019-2021) by Canadian Heritage under the Digital Citizenship program and will be led by PI Prof. Colette Brin (Département d’information et de communication, Directrice, Centre d'études sur les médias) at Université Laval.

Data Mining and Security (DMaS) Lab develops AI tools to defend the cyberspace of Canada

Congratulations to Prof. Evans for being appointed to CIRMMT as a full faculty member

Prof. Evans' research projects will examine knowledge sharing among musicians. The first is an experimental study further exploring the role of competence- and integrity-based trust on willingness to share and use knowledge among musicians. The second project would explore the universal movements of expert musicians, with the goal of seeing if these ‘universals’ can be transferred to musicians in beginning and intermediate stages of learning.

Dr. Alexandre Fortier and Dr. Elaine Ménard received The Best Overall Paper award for the highest ranked submission at the 46th Annual Conference of the Canadian Association for Information Science (CAIS) for their paper entitled "Quelles données satisferaient les utilisateurs de sites web de musées?". Award papers are being presented on the first day of the conference (May 30, 2018) between 10:00-noon.

The complete paper will be published in an upcoming edition of the Journal of Information and Library Science (CJILS).

His thesis is entitled “Archival interaction: a framework to assess university archives websites from the perspectives of history undergraduate students.” The goal of this exploratory research is to provide an exhaustive portrait of the effectiveness and efficiency of Canadian university archives websites by extending to a Canadian context similar research that was done in the United States.

Fei’s research investigates the difference between Web of Science and local Chinese bibliometric databases and contributes to understanding of whether international bibliometric databases can be used to evaluate national research performance.

Fei's supervisors are Dr. Charles-Antoine Julien and Dr. Vincent Larivière, EBSI, UdeM.

SIS PhD student Fei Shu wins iFellowship award for national-scale digital research in Chinese bibliometrics

The ƽ��岻�� School of Information Studies congratulates PhD in Information Studies student Fei Shu, recently selected for the iFellows Doctoral Fellowship program. Fei's thesis proposal was selected from a pool of applicants from 65 iSchools across the world. As an iFellow, Fei will receive a stipend of $50,000 USD over two years to pursue independent dissertation research that supports the goals of the Coherence at Scale Program.

ƽ��岻�� School of Information Studies faculty member Dr. Benjamin Fung has been awarded a Canada Research Chair (CRC Tier 2) in Data Mining for Cybersecurity. Dr. Fung's research program aims to enhance the data sharing and data mining capabilities for healthcare and cyber security professionals.

CRC Tier 2 chairs are awarded to exceptional emerging researchers, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field. For each Tier 2 Chair, the university receives $100,000 annually for five years.

Congratulations to ƽ��岻�� School of Information Studies PhD student Fei Shu, recently awarded the 2015 ASIS&T SIG/MET Student Paper Contest for the paper “Evolution of iSchool Movement (1988-2013): A Bibliometric View” by Fei Shu and Philippe Mongeon (ƽ��岻�� and University de Montreal).

As well, Fei’s paper "Twitter Activity and Scientific Collaboration of LIS schools and Faculty Members", co-authored with two PhD students from EBSI, won the Best Altmetrics Paper in the SIG/MET workshop at the ASIS&T Annual Meeting in November 2015.

SIS PhD student Steven Ding wins prize for data mining search engine for computer security

Guillaume Boutard, graduating PhD student at the School of Information Studies, has been awarded a major Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) grant with co-PI Fabrice Marandola (Schulich School of Music).

Their interdisciplinary research project focuses on "Documentation, Dissemination and Preservation of Compositions with Real-time Electronics".

Prof. Peter McNally awarded Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal

School of Information Studies faculty member Professor Peter McNally has been awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his outstanding contribution to the community.

Marc Garneau, MP for Westmount-Ville-Marie, will be presenting Prof. McNally with his medal at a ceremony on February 23, 2013.

School of Information Studies Masters of Library & Information Studies (MLIS) Archival Studies specialization students Parvaneh Abbaspour, Kerry Goodfellow, Nailisa Tanner, and Emily Zheng contributed a report to the December 2012 issue of the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA) Bulletin on the Digital Preservation Management Workshop held at ƽ��岻�� this past September.
