Ad hoc Committee to Review the Composition of Senate (2024-2025)

At its meeting of March 20, 2024, Senate, on the recommendation of the Senate Nominating Committee, approved the Terms of Reference of the Ad hoc Committee to Review the Composition of Senate. This Ad hoc Committee is charged with reviewing the current Composition of Senate, and, if deemed necessary, recommending revisions to section 6.1 of the Statutes of 平特五不中. Terms of Reference

The Ad hoc Committee to review the Composition of Senate is charged with reviewing the current Composition of Senate, and, if deemed necessary, recommending revisions to section 6.1 of the Statutes of 平特五不中.

Any proposed revision(s) to the Statutes which may arise following the conclusion of the Ad hoc Committee鈥檚 review process, may be presented to the Board of Governors for consideration on the recommendation of Senate*.

Informed by Senate鈥檚 statutory roles, the Ad hoc Committee shall review the Composition of Senate. The Ad hoc Committee will consider the following:

  • If any changes in the make-up of Senate would be appropriate or beneficial as related to the following:
    • The total number of Senators
    • The proportion, distribution, and number of Senators from among the University鈥檚 various faculties, constituencies, and recognized student societies, as well as ex-officio members.
  • If any changes to the eligibility conditions/qualifications for appointment or election to Senate would be appropriate or beneficial.
  • Any other matter related to the composition of Senate that the Ad hoc Committee deems appropriate to review during the course of its activities.

The Ad hoc Committee鈥檚 review will be underpinned by the preservation of the traditional majority of elected Academic and Librarian staff on Senate.

The Ad hoc Committee may consult with Senators and/or other members of the University Community, as it considers appropriate.

*Revisions to the Statutes, once approved by the Board of Governors, are communicated to the and are subject to disallowance within a 60-day period.

Composition

  • Provost and Executive Vice-President (Academic), Chair
  • Four Representatives of Senate, appointed by Senate on the recommendation of the Senate Nominating Committee, as follows:
    • Two Members of the Academic Staff, who are current or past Senators
    • One Member of the Administrative and Support Staff, who is a current or past Senator
    • One Student
  • One Representative of the Board of Governors, who is a current or past Governor, appointed by the Board of Governors on the recommendation of the Nominating, Governance, and Ethics Committee.
