Join us for our next public lecture on March 31st at 7pm, with Prof. Julie Hlavacek-Larrondo from l鈥橴niversit茅 de Montr茅al to learn about the largest black holes in the universe!
Don鈥檛 be fooled by the name, black holes are not just empty space; they鈥檙e the most powerful and extreme objects in the universe! In fact, they鈥檙e so powerful that nothing, not even light, can escape them. Filled with an incredible energy, they can destroy entire galaxies quickly and easily. Prof. Julie Hlavacek-Larrondo鈥檚 work focuses on the largest black holes in the universe, the titans among giants. These monsters are the most powerful and are all but silent. Throughout this lecture, she will inform you of the most recent discoveries about these objects, showing how extreme (and mysterious) the universe can be!

Julie Hlavacek-Larrondo
Originally half Chilean, half Czech, but born in Canada. I did my high school studies and Cegep studies at College Jean-de-Br茅beuf in Montreal, then my B. Sc. and M. Sc. in physics at Universit茅 de Montr茅al. Went on to do my Ph. D. at the University of Cambridge (completed in 2012), then an Einstein fellowship at Stanford University. Moved back to Montr茅al in 2014 as professor and Canada Research Chair at Universit茅 de Montr茅al.
