IASR 2013 Congr猫s mondial sur le suicide / IASR 2013 World Congress on Suicide
Welcome to the Congress
I am pleased to invite you to participate in the 2013 World Congress on Suicide, which will be held in beautiful Montreal from June 10 to 13.
Suicide has a terrible toll on most, if not all, societies around the world. Although we have made significant progress over the last decades in our understanding of risk factors for suicide, as well as in intervention and prevention strategies, much has yet to be learned and remains to be done.
The 2013 World Congress is the first of its kind. It is the first meeting of the International Academy for Suicide Research (), organized by the Quebec Suicide Research Network (, in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), and in collaboration with the Association qu茅b茅coise de pr茅vention du suicide (AQPS), the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention (CASP) and the F茅d茅ration Trauma Suicide Liaison Urgence (TSLU). This meeting will provide an inspiring forum for high level discussions on suicide research, suicide prevention and intervention.
The theme of the congress is Suicide: From research to practice. We are planning a number of timely and stimulating plenary sessions to discuss contemporary issues on suicide research, avenues for suicide prevention and innovative ways to intervene on suicidal behavior. Other sessions will offer unique opportunities for engaged dialogue between researchers and clinicians, stakeholders and decision-makers, promoting both translation of research findings to practice, as well as informing research direction by clinical and prevention needs.
I am excited by the high-caliber content of all planned congress activities, and I am sure you will be stimulated by this meeting. On behalf of all the members of the organizing team, and all our partners, I would like to express to all participants, faculty, and congressmen, a cordial welcome.
Dr. Gustavo Turecki
