Dr. Marie Brossard-Racine鈥檚 research team is investigating the underlying mechanisms of function and dysfunction in children with neurodevelopmental disorders so that we can better target biomarkers either for diagnostic purposes or as markers of treatment for early intervention. They developed an approach to our research that combines advanced quantitative Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques with clinically relevant standardized evaluations to promote early detection of non-optimal brain and/or functional development in at-risk pediatric populations. They hope that the results from these studies will help us to better identify children who are more likely to present with developmental difficulties and鈥痝uide the development of targeted early interventions that will enhance brain recovery, support the child鈥檚 health development and inform service delivery. Dr. Brossard-Racine chose the Department of Pediatrics because of her interest in studying neuroplasticity and children鈥檚 capacity to adapt and change when given the proper stimulation or environment.聽
