The recent pandemic has severely restricted access to dental care with most practitioners limited to practicing tele-dentistry, which surprisingly has been quite efficacious. Given the very intimate nature of the profession, reopening of dental clinics will entail many new protocols in order to maximize safety for both patients and staff. Fortunately, dentists are adept at employing infection control protocol, as current guidelines are already very strict. So how will things look in what will certainly be the new normal?
Tue, 05 May 2020 19:15:56 +0000 Mark Grossman BSc, DDS, Contributor 8235 at /oss (April 16, 2020) Covid-19 and More: Conversations with the ƽ岻 Office for Science and Society /oss/article/covid-19/april-16-2020-covid-19-and-more-conversations-mcgill-office-science-and-society

Mon, 20 Apr 2020 18:48:59 +0000 OSS 8221 at /oss (April 9, 2020) Covid-19 and More: Conversations with the ƽ岻 Office for Science and Society /oss/article/covid-19-videos/april-9-2020-covid-19-and-more-conversations-mcgill-office-science-and-society

Thu, 09 Apr 2020 21:27:24 +0000 OSS 8214 at /oss Can Rain Extract Blood from a Stone? /oss/article/environment-general-science/can-rain-extract-blood-stone
When the land has been dry and it starts to rain, there is a peculiar smell in the air, an earthy scent called petrichor. In the 1960s, two Australian scientists, Isabel Bear and Richard Thomas, began to steam-drill rocks exposed to dry conditions and they discovered the oil that serves as a precursor to petrichor. This oil is secreted by plants during the dry season and seeps into rocks and clay-based soils. When it finally rains down on the porous ground, small air bubbles containing this oil form and migrate to the surface of the soil and become air borne.
Tue, 20 Nov 2018 17:23:31 +0000 Jonathan Jarry, MSc 7457 at /oss
