An analytical solution to water diffusion of atmospheric viscous aerosols

To better understand the influence of the atmospheric aerosol on climate and air quality, it is essential to extend our knowledge of aerosol hygroscopicity. This talk will focus on water uptake of ultra-viscous secondary organic aerosols and how non-linear diffusion affects this process. The thermodynamics of this amorphous state along with the mathematical physics of particle diffusion will be presented. A recently derived analytical solution for the water uptake of a stationary spherical particle with diffusive boundary condition will be discussed.
