Master's Harmonized Tri-Council Awards (CGS M) - NSERC & SSHRC

Canada Graduate Scholarship Masters CGS M (NSERC/SSHRC and CIHR)

VALUE: $17,500 (one year non-renewable)

The federal granting agencies (Canadian Institute of Health Research - CIHR; Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council - NSERC; and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council - SSHRC) have harmonized the Master's Canada Graduate Scholarship 辫谤辞驳谤补尘.听

All eligible students applying for a Canada Graduate Scholarship Master's (CGS M) will use the Research Portal (hosted by NSERC) and Canadian Common CV via the institution where they are registered or intend to register.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, you must:

  • be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada;
  • be enrolled in, have applied for, or will apply for, full-time admission*听to an eligible graduate program at the master鈥檚 or doctoral level at a Canadian institution with a CGS M allocation.听*Note: Applicants who are not currently enrolled in their intended graduate program must submit an application for admission at 平特五不中听prior to February 15.
  • have completed, as of December 31 of the year of application, between zero and 12听months of full-time studies (or full-time equivalent) in:
    • the master鈥檚 program for which you are requesting funding; or
    • the doctoral program for which you are requesting funding if you were admitted into a doctoral program directly from your bachelor鈥檚 program (you were never registered in a master鈥檚 program, or you are registered in a combined Master鈥檚-PhD program); or
    • a master鈥檚 program, but are requesting funding for a doctoral program (an example is a student who is fast-track from a master鈥檚 to a doctoral program within 12听months of starting their Master鈥檚 and is seeking funding for the first 12听months of their doctoral program); and
  • not have previously held a CGS M;
  • achieved a first-class grade point average, as determined by 平特五不中,听in each of the last two completed years of study (full-time equivalent)听
  • submit a maximum of ONE CGS M application per year (the Research Portal will allow the application to be submitted to up to five universities).

It is the students鈥 responsibility to make certain that their application is complete.

Doctoral Harmonized Tri-Council Awards (CGS D) 鈥 CIHR, NSERC & SSHRC

The objective of the Canada Graduate Scholarships - Doctoral (CGS D) program is to promote continued excellence in Canadian research by rewarding and retaining high-calibre doctoral students at Canadian institutions. By providing support for a high-quality research training experience to awardees, the CGS D program strives to foster impacts within and beyond the research environment.

The three agencies have recently harmonized the CGS D application process and launched a new common

平特五不中 students must submit an application form and required documents to their academic unit. The internal deadline is set by Academic Unit.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, an applicant must:

  • be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, as of the application deadline date;
  • have completed no more than 24 months of full-time study in their doctoral program by December 31 of the year of application (no more than 36 months if transferred directly from bachelor's to a PhD or enrolled in a joint program, e.g., MD/PhD, MA/PhD);
  • submit only one doctoral award application in a given academic year. Nominations to the program do not count towards this limit;
  • not have already received a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC.

How to apply

Competition process 鈥 Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Units

The appointed fellowship coordinator of all Academic Units in our Faculty is Susan Gregus (MS2-075)

Step-by-step guidelines:

  1. Prior to applying applicant must provide Susan with all transcripts so a GPA calculation could be made to ensure that the student meets the GPA requirement. Applicant will receive an e-mail if they are eligible or not.
  2. Applicant requests that a copy of the referee letters are sent to Susan.
  3. Applicant completes, prints and provides Susan with a copy of completed application.
  4. Susan accepts entire application including supporting documents from applicant in person.
  5. Academic Units review files and decide to either 鈥渞ecommend鈥 or 鈥渘ot recommend鈥 to GPS Graduate Funding. Decisions will be communicated to Susan and will be entered via FAD.
  6. Susan communicates outcome to applicants via e-mail.
  7. GPS Graduate Funding reviews the recommended files and decide to 鈥渞ecommend鈥 or 鈥渘ot recommend鈥 to the granting agency.
  8. GPS Graduate Funding notifies every applicant (whose application was recommend to GPS by the Academic Unit) of the file review outcome.
  9. Agency announces winners in Spring.

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship Program

The Vanier scholarship program was launched by the Government of Canada to attract and retain world class doctoral students. The following is for general information only. Complete details regarding the Vanier program can be found on the .

This funding opportunity encourages students to pursue their doctoral studies at institutions different from those where they completed a previous degree(s) in order to broaden research horizons and seek new challenges. Candidates nominated by a university at which they have completed a previous degree will be asked to provide a compelling rationale as to why they have chosen to remain or return.

Highly-qualified international candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. All interested candidates are encouraged to contact Susan Gregus (MS2-075) with their transcripts.听 A GPA calculation will be made prior to the student applying to make certain that they meet the GPA requirement of 3.7.

Value and Duration of Award: $50,000 per year for three years

Eligibility Criteria:

  • To be considered for a Vanier CGS, the applicant must be nominated by only one Canadian university.
  • A minimum 平特五不中-equivalent CGPA of 3.70 for ALL degrees obtained to date (i.e. Undergraduate and graduate).听 Note:听 Only students who completed their undergraduate training in a university other than 平特五不中 will be considered unless a very compelling justification can be provided.
  • For current PhD-level students: you must have completed fewer than 20 months of doctoral studies by May 1.
  • For MSc students:听 you must have completed the MSc requirements, or transferred to the PhD, no later than September.
  • Demonstrated past and/or current leadership potential as described by .

  • Academic units identify potential nominees and send their name and email address to Graduatefunding.gps [at] mcgill.ca (GPS) by May 30.
  • Applicants must submit a hardcopy of their entire application to Susan Gregus (MS2-075).听 It is the applicants responsibility to ensure that their application is complete, including referee assessments and recommendation letter.听 Students must inform their referees to provide Susan Gregus with a copy of their assessment forms that they submit and inform the Chair of their department to provide the original letter of recommendation to me by that same date.
