Victoria Dickenson awarded The Society for the History of Natural History President's Medal for work on the Gwillim Project

The Society for the History of Natural History (SHNH) is delighted to award the SHNH President’s Award 2023 to Victoria Dickenson for her work on the Gwillim Project: Women, Environment, and Networks of Knowledge and Exchange in Early Nineteenth Century Madras. The Award recognizes an individual or team’s contribution and impact in promoting and improving accessibility, inclusivity, and diversity to the study of the history of natural history.

Osler Library of the History of Medicine reopens August 29, 2022

After several years of reconstruction work, the Osler Library of the History of Medicine is set to reopen with full service on Monday, August 29, 2022. The Osler Library will be open Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

We would like to thank the ƽ��岻�� community and scholar partners for their patience and collaboration during this renovation work.

Holds temporarily not accepted on Osler Library’s circulating collection

As part of the service disruption as Osler Library of the History of Medicine moves back to the McIntyre Building, please note that no holds can currently be placed on the Osler’s circulating collection, with the exception of the journal collection in the Redpath Library Building Basement. An Interlibrary Loan button has been added to the catalogue for these materials until they are available again.

Spring - Summer 2022 | Service disruption as Osler Library moves back to McIntyre

This spring/summer, the Osler Library of the History of Medicine will be moving back to the third floor of the McIntyre Medical Building. From April - June 2022, Osler circulating and rare collections will be prepped, packed, and transported to the renovated space. Service disruptions are expected to continue through August 2022 as materials are shelved and equipment/furniture is installed.

Small-scale digitization of rare and special collections available as of August 3rd

The initial rollout of this service prioritizes the ƽ��岻�� community as it prepares for fall 2020 virtual teaching. ƽ��岻�� students, faculty, and staff may place requests using the on-demand digitization form.

Update #6: Osler Library of the History of Medicine

Space Update: The Osler Library of the History of Medicine space has been repaired and reconstructed. The third and fourth floor spaces surrounding the Osler Library and managed by the Faculty of Medicine are now being renovated. As a result, the Osler Library of the History of Medicine will be operational following the completion of this construction project. Library services in McIntyre are expected to resume in 2021.

Osler materials continue to be accessible and Osler staff are available to assist users.

From Quebec detective fiction to fairy tales, Manguel and his guests will cover a wide range of topics – something to appeal to the curiosity in all of us.

Background: As a result of the water infiltration and recovery efforts related to McIntyre Medical Building fire in July 2018, the Osler Library space in the McIntyre Medical Building continues to be closed until further notice. The Osler recovery team has restored most materials, and holdings from the Osler collection are now accessible to users in Rare Books and Special Collections Reading Room, located on the 4^th floor of the McLennan Library Building.

New Digital Collection | Horae: Collection of Books of Hours

Horae: Collection of Books of Hours features Books of Hours in both manuscript and printed form, spanning several centuries from Rare Books and Special Collections at the ƽ��岻�� Library. In the 1920s and 1930s, Gerhard R. Lomer, one of ƽ��岻��’s first librarians, launched an innovative project to create a small museum of the book inside the library open to the general public, to present a brief history of manuscript and printed books as well as the iconography through the centuries.

As a result of the water infiltration and recovery efforts related to McIntyre Medical Building fire incident in July, the Osler Library continues to be closed until further notice. The Osler recovery team has been focusing their efforts on securing the contents of the Osler Library of the History of Medicine. All books, rare books, art, and artefacts from the Osler have been wrapped, packed, and removed so that a complete inspection of the Osler section of the building can begin.

Early Friday night, July 13, firefighters were called to the McIntyre Medical Building to put out a fire on the outdoor terrace. The evacuation procedure went smoothly and no injuries were reported.
