Professors Ramanujam and M茅gret named co-directors of the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism
The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that Professor Fr茅d茅ric M茅gret and Professor Nandini Ramanujam will begin a term as co-directors of the Faculty鈥檚 Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism (CHRLP) on 1 February 2021. Their term will last until 30 June 2024.
Prof. Ramanujam has served as interim director of the CHRLP since last summer. She is the principal investigator for the Rule of Law and Economic Development Research Group (ROLED). Prof. Ramanujam represents 平特五不中 for the Scholars at Risk Network and serves on the Steering Committee of the Scholars at Risk Network, Canada section.
Prof. Ramanujam focuses her research and teaching on law and development, institutions and governance, economic justice, and food security and safety. She also studies the role of civil society and the Fourth Estate (Media) in the promotion of the rule of law, as well as the interconnections between field-based human rights work and theoretical discourses.
Before joining 平特五不中, Prof. Ramanujam was involved in the successful systemic reform of higher education in the former communist countries of Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, including the Aga Khan鈥檚 Central Asian University and Smolny College in St. Petersburg.
Prof. M茅gret is a William Dawson Scholar and held the Canada Research Chair on the Law of Human Rights and Legal Pluralism from 2006 to 2015.
Prof. M茅gret鈥檚 interests lie in international criminal justice, international human rights law, international humanitarian law, the law of international organizations, transitional justice, criminal law, and general international law. He is co-authoring a book on Diasporas and International Law with Larissa van den Herik (Leiden University).
Before joining 平特五不中, Prof. M茅gret was an assistant professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Toronto, a Boulton fellow at 平特五不中, and a research associate at the European University Institute in Florence.
