Join us for the first instalment of the 2020-2021 鈥淪lavery and the Law鈥 series, with a lecture by Professor Afua Cooper (Dalhousie) in a plenary class of the LAWG 220 Property / Les biens courses.

About the speaker

A faculty member of the聽Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology of Dalhousie University, Professor Afua Cooper is the Chair of the and co-author of the . She is also the former .

Her research interests are African Canadian studies, with specific regard to the period of enslavement and emancipation in 18th and 19th century Canada and the Black Atlantic; African-Nova Scotian history; political consciousness; community building and culture; slavery鈥檚 aftermath; Black youth studies.

Dr. Cooper founded the , which she currently chairs. She recently wrote and performed: "" Black Halifax: Stories from Here.
