Global Law of Monopolies, Human Rights and Access to Medicines
The Centre for Intellectual Property Policy () welcomes Calixto Salomão Filho, Professor of Law at University of São Paulo Law School.
Abstract
Professor Salomão Filho will try to demonstrate how, in the global arena, the effectiveness of human rights is frequently dependent upon the adoption of structural measures to curb market power of monopolies or big enterprises. In the case of the access to drugs, it can require the adoption of strategic litigation aiming at the compulsory licensing or the prevention of price abuse by patent holders. To illustrate this, he will discuss a case of strategic litigation regarding breast cancer drugs.
