Public Narrative and Critical Thinking in Times of Hyper-Technologization
The increasingly rapid development of new media merits a reflection not only on the quality of the contents produced therein, but also on the possibilities deriving from them. This workshop aims to explore one of these communication tools: the podcast. We will discuss it with experts, trying to understand both from a journalistic point of view its potential and from a technical point of view its functioning. Together we will explore the possibilities for novel engagements and far-reaching interventions in the public sphere. Jack Solar from CKUT will present a history of the radio station, together with an overview of the basics of recording and editing a podcast that includes an explanation of the necessary hardware and software as well as some tips for content creation and management. Christos Tsirigotis, a researcher on AI, will discuss the opposing tendencies of technophilia and technophobia, as well as signaling a middle ground, that is, a strategic and responsible use of emergent technologies that can benefit both researchers and social movements.
