Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry听(2011) Alison Klayman (dir., 91 minutes)

Following on from the theme of difficult art and subject matter, and censorship in museums and public spaces, in the 1st Brown Bag Lunch series (Thursday, Feb 8th 12-1 pm in the Art Hive) the film on Weiwei is an exploration of China's most famous international artist. Ai Weiwei also happens to be the country鈥檚 most outspoken domestic critic - as over time Chinese authorities have shut down Weiwei鈥檚 blog, beaten him up, bulldozed his newly built studio, and held him in secret detention! It is timely to be showing this film, in the context of art that can be construed as difficult. Despite the strict censorship and an unresponsive legal system, Klayman鈥檚 film portrays the ways Weiwei continues to express himself and organize people through art and social media.
