"How to" Archiving (Personal and Group Materials), LGBTQ+ special focus

Thursday, November 17, 2022 18:00to19:30

Don't throw away that event flyer or button! In 30 years it might provide important insights about historical events.

Do you have personal or group materials that you might want to contribute to an archive? During this event with representatives from the Archives Gaies du Qu茅bec (Simone Beaudry-Pilotte), Archives Lesbiennes du Qu茅bec (Laure Neuville), and 平特五不中 Archives (Adria Seccareccia), we will talk about what it means to contribute materials to an archive and what that involves.

Everyone is welcome! We will have a special focus on LGBTQ+ materials and social movement/social justice group archives- but many of the discussions will be relevant beyond those materials and topics.

We will touch on topics such as:

1. why you should consider donating to archives

2. how to figure out what archive to contact about donating your materials to

3. knowing what materials archives might want

4. preparing the materials for donation

5. the kinds of forms folks might fill out (and showing examples)

6. setting up ongoing deposits of materials/ and what archives support this

7. copyright stuff and more!

(there will also be a Q and A for you to ask your own questions).

This event has grown out of the because when Dr. Alex Ketchum and Jacob Williams were sourcing materials, it became evident that a lot of student group and personal folks' papers were kept in cardboard boxes in closets and on floors. Thanks also to Laure Neuville and Michael David Miller for the idea of this event!

We hope that this event helps lower barriers to understanding archives and will encourage folks to contribute materials to archives so that we can preserve these important histories.

We will also record the event so it can be of use in the future.
