Men鈥檚 Mental Health: Promoting Well-being, Resilience and Action (Online)
Offered by the Health and Wellness Program as part of the 14th Annual Health and Wellness Fair
Male mental health is a critical yet often underrecognized area, with men making up a significant portion of global suicide rates鈥攁pproximately 7 out of every 10 suicide deaths. In Canada, suicide is the second leading cause of death among men under 50, with men accounting for about 75% of these tragedies. Despite these statistics, the issue is frequently termed a 鈥渟ilent crisis鈥 or 鈥渟ilent epidemic.鈥 However, there is hope: effective psychological treatments for depression, a major risk factor for suicide, are available and can make a profound difference. This presentation will explore the role of depression in male suicide, examine the barriers that prevent men from seeking help, and introduce an innovative mental health resource tailored specifically for men. By fostering awareness, encouraging help-seeking behavior, and promoting resilience, we can work together to improve men鈥檚 mental health and reduce suicide rates.
