Program Description
The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Sociology (Thesis) offered by the Department of Sociology in the Faculty of Arts is a research-intensive program that emphasizes transformative and challenging learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in intellectual independence, literature synthesis, and scientific communication to either continue their studies or pursue professional opportunities.
The program may also be taken as one of the following options:
Development Studies option: gives students the opportunity to develop a unique set of tools to pursue their journey either by working with development organizations or government agencies, or pursuing a disciplinary-based or multi-disciplinary doctoral degree. The thesis must relate to a topic closely related to Development Studies.
Gender and Women's Studies option: provides students the opportunity to pursue coursework on feminist, women's, and gender studies. The thesis be on a topic that significantly engages with issues of gender and/or women and/or feminism.
