Performance: Collaborative Piano (M.Mus.)

Program Description

The Master of Music (M.Mus.) in Performance: Collaborative Piano (Thesis) offered by the Schulich School of Music is a research-intensive program that emphasizes hands-on and collaborative learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in literature review, performance, and communication to either continue their studies or pursue professional opportunities.

Unique Program Features

  • Students develop their artistry as collaborative musicians in vocal, instrumental, and opera r茅p茅titeur settings. The program is not a chamber music program in that it prepares pianists to assume coaching responsibilities as well as collaborate with other musicians;
  • Faculty members are world-class coaches with expertise in vocal, opera, and orchestral repertoires, experience on international stages and opera halls, and with major recording labels;
  • The School houses several performance spaces, research & production laboratories, and two libraries with a vast collection of music resources. It is also home to the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT), an inter-institutional research centre containing six dedicated research labs and work spaces;
  • Students in this program have received Hnatyshan Foundation and Developing Artist grants, Canada Council Awards, Schulich School of Music Travel Grants, and have been featured artists at institutions such as the Franz Schubert Institute in Austria and the Halifax Summer Opera.
