Music: Musicology (M.A.)

Program Description

The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Music: Musicology (Non-Thesis) offered by the Schulich School of Music is a course-based program that emphasizes challenging and rigorous learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in critical evaluation, resourceful thinking, and research methods to pursue professional opportunities (or potentially continue their studies).

Unique Program Features

  • The program focuses on research methodologies and critical issues;
  • Collaborations with students from other areas and the doctoral program in seminars facilitate out-of-the-box thinking;
  • The School benefits from links with various departments, the Institute for the Public Life of Art and Ideas, and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology;
  • The School houses several performance spaces, research & production laboratories, and two libraries with a vast collection of music resources. It is also home to the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT), an inter-institutional research centre containing six dedicated research labs and work spaces.

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
