Mental Health (M.Sc.)

Program Description

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Mental Health (Thesis) offered by the Department of Psychiatry in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences is a research-intensive program that emphasizes challenging and rigorous learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in literature synthesis, research methodology, and academic writing to either continue their studies or pursue professional opportunities.

Unique Program Features

  • The program is designed to provide advanced research training in the basic, applied, and social sciences relevant to issues in psychiatry;
  • Applicants are admitted from a wide range of backgrounds, including anthropology, genetics, medicine, neuroscience, and psychology;
  • Students receive stipends from the thesis supervisor, from external fellowships and from awards provided by the department;
  • The Department has been at the cutting edge of advances in neuroscience, psychotherapy, diagnostic methods and therapeutic interventions. Specifically, Faculty members research areas include behavioural genetics, neuroimaging, neuroscience, public policy and transcultural psychiatry, and encompassing both quantitative and qualitative research methods (animal models, human models, and studies involving psychiatric patients).

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
