Education and Society (M.A.)

Program Description

The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Education and Society (Thesis) offered by the Department of Integrated Studies in Education in the Faculty of Education is a research-intensive program that emphasizes innovative and engaging learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in critical thinking, literature review, and academic writing to either continue their studies or pursue professional opportunities.

The program may also be taken as one of the following options:

Gender and Women's Studies option: which emphasizes coursework and research focusing on gender and women鈥檚 studies, and issues in feminist research and methods.

Mathematics and Science Education option: emphasizes research in mathematics and science education, including a specific focus on teacher education in the area of math and science.

Unique Program Features

  • As a research-oriented degree, approximately half of the program consists coursework and the other half of thesis research.
  • The program may focus on Culture, Values and Education which may focus on, for example, philosophy, art and aesthetics, values, spirituality and religion, gender issues or international and comparative education.
  • Or the program may focus on Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum which emphasizes current perspectives on pedagogy and curriculum, teacher education, in- and out-of-school learning, practitioner research, and classroom practice.

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
