Civil Engineering (M.Sc.)

Program Description

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Civil Engineering (Thesis) offered by the Department of Civil Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering is a research-intensive program that emphasizes specialized and intedisciplinary learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in research design, critical thinking, and information synthesis to either continue their studies or pursue professional opportunities.

Unique Program Features

  • The program is typically completed in 20-24 months over the course of which students obtain a deeper understanding of their area of specialty through courses selected with their supervisor;
  • Students participate in a 2 to 3 semester independent research project which may focus on one of the following areas: structures, infrastructure rehabilitation, risk engineering, fluid mechanics and hydraulics, materials engineering, soil behaviour, soil mechanics and foundations, water resources engineering, environmental engineering, and transportation engineering.

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
