Bioresource Engineering (PhD)

Program Description

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Bioresource Engineering offered by the Department of Bioresource Engineering in the Faculty of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences is a research-intensive program that emphasizes skill-enhancing and cutting-edge learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in research methodology, data analysis, and scientific communication to pursue professional opportunities in academia or industry.

Environment option: offered in collaboration with the Bieler School of Environment, the program considers how various dimensions (scientific, social, legal, ethical) interact to define environment and sustainability issues.

Keywords: Plant and animal environments, ecological engineering (ecosystem modelling, design, management, and remediation), water resources management (hydrology, irrigation, drainage, water quality), agricultural machinery, mechatronics, and robotics, food engineering and bioprocessing, post-harvest technology, waste management and protection of the environment, bioenergy, and artificial intelligence.

Unique Program Features

  • Typical research areas include the design, construction, operation, maintenance, remediation, and upgrading of systems that contain biological components. Additionally, the design of many of the technological constructions that are part of such systems.
  • In the Environment option, students will learn how to transfer knowledge into action and develop an appreciation for the roles of science, politics, economics, and ethics with regard to the environment
  • Graduates pursue careers in academia, the private sector (industry and consulting), in Government and non-Government Organizaons (NGOs).

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
