Animal Science (M.Sc.A.)

Program Description

The Master of Science, Applied (M.Sc.A.) in Animal Science (Non-Thesis) offered by the Department of Animal Science in the Faculty of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences is a course-based program that emphasizes cutting-edge and hands-on learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in resource utilization, project evaluation, and information synthesis to pursue professional opportunities (or potentially continue their studies).

The program is also available with the following option:

Sustainable Agriculture option: designed for students who wish to supplement their basic degree with graduate studies in animal science, with a specific focus on sustainability in agriculture.

Unique Program Features

  • Oriented towards students inspired by concepts in sustainable and integrated animal agriculture, to animal scientists already working in industry or government, to project leaders interested in animal resource management and to veterinarians;
  • The program provides graduate training in applied areas of animal production with a view towards integrating technology and management in animal production with allied areas of agricultural resource utilization.
  • Students in the program will be exposed to different approaches to improve the sustainability of agricultural systems through specialized coursework and a project;
  • Students benefit from research facilities in and access to the Macdonald Campus Farm which includes the Dairy Cattle Complex, the Swine Complex, and the Donald McQueen Shaver Poultry Complex. Additionally, students have access to labs and groups such as Lactanet (Canadian Dairy Production Centre of Expertise), the Crampton Nutrition Lab, the Large Animal Research Unit (LARU) and the Small Animal Research unit (SARU).

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
