"I have always been fascinated by the immune system's incredible adaptability and its potential to tackle various challenges, including cancer. The prospect of rewiring the immune system for therapeutic purposes is both promising and exciting," Prof. Melichar states passionately. Her devotion to harnessing the immune system's power to combat cancer resonates deeply within her research endeavors and aligns with the GCI鈥檚 mandate.
Joining the GCI is a natural fit for Prof. Melichar. "The GCI houses some of the brightest minds in cancer research, creating an inspiring environment that elevates one's work. Prof. Morag Park's vision of fostering interdisciplinary collaborations towards a common goal resonated with me profoundly," she shares. As she embarks on this new chapter, Prof. Melichar eagerly anticipates delving into her new role, learning the ropes, and forging connections across the GCI community. "This academic year holds immense promise, and I look forward to meeting everyone at the GCI, establishing new collaborations, and making strides in the field of cancer immunotherapy." She has already begun working alongside several GCI researchers, including Profs. Guojun Chen and Lawrence Kazak, to integrate her understanding in T cell into transformative cancer treatments.
