Thanking Dr. Gillian Bartlett for her outstanding achievements

We would like to thank Dr. Gillian Bartlett, who has stepped down as Director of the Research Division, for her tremendous work over the past 15 years.

When she joined 平特五不中鈥檚 Department of Family Medicine in 2005, primary care research in Canada was still in its infancy. Dr. Bartlett, who received her PhD in epidemiology from 平特五不中 in 2001, was brought in specifically to help increase 平特五不中 Family Medicine鈥檚 research capacity. She played a key role in building a clinical scholar program, a master鈥檚 degree program, and ultimately a PhD program. Dr. Bartlett worked tirelessly to get those programs accredited. 平特五不中 was one of the last medical schools in Canada to create a Family Medicine Department, in 1976, but one of the first to have their graduate programs accredited. Dr. Bartlett鈥檚 entry to the Department was a breath of fresh air, as she set the bar high for our graduate programs.

In addition to her many achievements, Dr. Bartlett lobbied for the creation of tenure-track positions to support research and teaching in the Department. Moreover, the introduction of the Tannenbaum fellows was the result of a collaboration between Dr. Dove and Dr. Bartlett as Research Director. Dr. Bartlett played a major role in assisting the Postgraduate division with the development of our annual resident research day. The decision to maintain and develop this collaboration between both divisions was unanimous.

In 2014, Dr. Bartlett was awarded the Carrie M. Derick Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching and Supervision for 平特五不中 and was named to the Faculty of Medicine Honour List for Educational Excellence. Both a great teacher and mentor, Dr. Barlett was a pillar of our Research and Graduate Programs over the past 15 years.

On behalf of the Department of Family Medicine, we would like to express its gratitude to Dr. Bartlett for all she has done and will continue to do in the future, as the excellent mentor and teacher to our young researchers and students she has always been.

Please join us in thanking Dr. Bartlett for her amazing achievements.
