The Family Medicine Distributed Medical Education Program Director oversees the Distributed Medical Education Program for the Department of Family Medicine and is the main resource person to rural training sites. S/he reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Family Medicine. The expected time commitment is an average of 1.5 days per week (0.3 FTE).
General Responsibilities
The training of 平特五不中 undergraduate medical students completing their rural family medicine clerkship month and family medicine residents completing their two mandatory rural family medicine rotations involves a large network of clinical teaching sites, each with unique characteristics. The Distributed Medical Education Program Director has the responsibility for implementing the Faculty of Medicine鈥檚 Distributed Medical Education Program through support of rural training sites.
Specific Responsibilities
The Family Medicine Distributed Medical Education Program Director is expected to:
1. Act as resource person to training programs in fulfilling the distributed medical education mission. This includes:
聽 聽 1.1. Working with the UGME and PGME in the Department of Family Medicine and in collaboration with UGME and PGME at the Faculty of Medicine to identify, recruit, develop and evaluate new rural training sites.
聽 聽 1.2. Participating in UGME, PGME and Department of Family Medicine committees as required.
聽 聽 1.3. Regularly meeting with the Family Medicine PGME Program Director.
聽 聽 1.4. Regularly meeting with the Family Medicine UGME Program Director.
聽 聽 1.5. Conducting periodic (1 visit per year per site) visits of rural training sites to ensure that teaching objectives are being met. This may be extended to once every 18 months under exceptional circumstances.
聽 聽 1.6. Collaborating with Campus Outaouais on issues concerning the educational mission of the teaching sites within the Outaouais region.
聽 聽 1.7. Working with the Associate Dean UGME and Associate Dean PGME in dealing with training issues as requested by the Family Medicine PGME Program Director and the UGME Program Director.
聽 聽 1.8. Investigating complaints by trainees or by sites as they pertain to the rural programs.
2. Act as resource person to rural clinical training sites in fulfilling the education mission. This includes:
聽 聽 2.1. Collaborating with the Faculty of Medicine鈥檚 RUIS network.
聽 聽 2.2. Promoting rural training and career options to medical students, residents and new recruits.
聽 聽 2.3. Managing the budget of the Distributed Medical Education Program and advising the Faculty of Medicine on budget requests from the rural sites.
聽 聽 2.4. Responding to queries and concerns from the training sites.
聽 聽 2.5. Participating and encouraging teaching faculty participation in Faculty Development activities within the Department of Family Medicine.
聽 聽 2.6. Attending the annual Department of Family Medicine Retreat.
3. Liaise with counterparts at the other universities. This includes:
聽 聽 3.1. Meeting at least yearly with counterparts from the other Quebec Faculties of Medicine.
聽 聽 3.2. Meeting at least yearly with Canadian counterparts at a national meeting (FMF).
Qualifications
The successful candidate must be:
- A physician holding a 平特五不中 faculty appointment and holding a license to practice medicine in the province of Quebec in Family Medicine.
- Familiar with the Faculty of Medicine Code of Conduct and expectations with regard to professionalism.
- Fluently bilingual (French and English).
- Experience in faculty development is considered an asset.
