The Isaac Tannenbaum Annual Research Day

Published: 2 July 2015

The Isaac Tannenbaum Annual Research Day on May 29 brought together essentially all of our residents from our six Family Medicine Units and our three satellites sites.听 The resident oral presentations were fantastic with many were excellent examples of practice-based research pointing to how practice can be improved by research.听 These presentations were complemented by our guest speakers, Dr. Howard Bergman who spoke about our growing academic department and Dr. Marion who talked about her journey as a clinician scientist.听 We also had Ms. Quynh Nguyen who gave a presentation on the 平特五不中 Primary Care Research Network Network. Several members of the Network evaluated the residents鈥 presentations to see which might be supported by the Network in the future. In addition, each site was awarded a prize for the best oral presentation with the judges being staff from the sites and the residents chose their favourite presentation.听 The winners were:

1) Dr. Mario Ruiz Ruiz , CLSC CDN : Vitamin D Status in Government Assisted Refugees screened at the CLSC-CDN.
2) Dr. Carina Antczak, JGH HERZL: Lung cancer screening: lifesaver or overkill?
3) Dr. Vladimir Khanassov, SMH: Patient-centered approach to the care of patients with dementia and their caregivers in primary care: A systematic mixed studies review and meta-analysis.
4) Dr. Jos茅e Larin, CSSS Jardins Roussillon Ch芒teauguay: Examen m茅dical p茅riodique - 茅valuation de l'acte.听
5) Dr. Audrey-Anne Fortier, CSSS Vall茅e de l鈥橭r : Traitons-nous ad茅quatement l'OMA chez l'enfant 脿 l'urgence?
6) *Dr. 听

* This presentation also received the prize for the 鈥淩esidents鈥 choice award鈥.

We were also pleased to announce the development of an online course for all sites led by Dr. Jeannie Haggerty to provide research support for the staff and residents to prepare them for the next Tannenbaum event. Graduate students will be matched to sites or groups of residents to facilitate this process.听 In addition, the day was an accredited faculty development activity thanks to the help of Dr. Marion Dove and Ms. Andrea Zdyb. This encouraged clinical teachers to attend and to obtain CME credits by learning about residents鈥 scholarly activity.听 We hope that this day will continue to be a faculty development event in years to come.听 We look forward to next year鈥檚 event on May 27, 2016 so save the date!

Special thanks on behalf of Dr. Gillian Bartlett and Dr. Doug Dalton for the hard work from Ms. Sherrie Child, Mr. Jamie DeMore, Ms. Julia Diouf, Ms. Julie Lane, Ms. Christine Steinmeyer, Ms. Quynh Nguyen and Mr. Justin Gagnon for organization of the day.
