Dr. Samira Abbasgholizadeh-Rahimi joins the 平特五不中 Department of Family Medicine

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Samira Abbasgholizadeh-Rahimi will join the Department of Family Medicine in January 2019, as a full-time Assistant Professor.

Dr. Rahimi obtained her doctorate in Industrial and System Engineering, with a focus on healthcare systems, and her postdoctoral training in Shared Decision Making and Knowledge Translation in Primary Care from聽Universit茅 Laval. She has also completed a certificate program in Healthcare Change Leadership from Cornell University, as well as a professional certificate program in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

鈥淚 am truly honoured and excited to join such a diverse, friendly and vibrant department and university as a faculty member,鈥 she says.

Involved as a co-investigator and/or collaborator in several projects, she is currently co-leading Artificial Intelligence for Efficient Community Based Primary Health Care, an international-scale project funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

Dr. Rahimi has been the recipient of numerous scholarships, fellowships and awards from various organizations, including the CIHR, Mitacs Canada, the North American Primary Care Research Group, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Canadian Operational Research Society, and the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation and Social Integration.

Her research interests include:

  • Health systems management
  • Clinical and patient-oriented decision support tools
  • Shared decision making and patient decision aids
  • Integration of smart technologies 鈥 such as artificial intelligence tools鈥 and e-health in primary health care
  • Operational research
  • Quality improvement

鈥淚n my new position, I am looking forward to bridging the use of interdisciplinary methods and tools such as analytical methods and artificial intelligence tools into primary health care,鈥, she explains. She will be guest lecturing the course Advanced Topics in Family Medicine Research: Knowledge Translation (FMED601) during the upcoming winter semester.
