Join the Department of English for a conversation between Val茅rie Bah, Kama La Mackerel, and St茅phane Martelly, moderated by Alanna Thain (English) and Catherine Leclerc (D茅partement des litt茅ratures de langue fran莽aise, de traduction et de creation). The authors will discuss translation in the context of Bah鈥檚 novel听Les Enrag.茅.es听/听The Rage Letters, and more broadly within and across queer, trans, Black, multilingual and diaspora communities.

About the authors:
Val茅rie Bah is a Tiohti脿:ke-based filmmaker and writer whose work explores intergenerational trauma & healing, as well as mundane/radical acts of survival. Couched in magical realism, Val鈥檚 narratives are driven by Black feminist thought and lived experience.
Kama La Mackerel is an educator, visual artist, performer, writer and translator who works between and across English, French and Mauritian Kreol. They are the author of the award-winning poetry collection ZOM-FAM (Metonymy Press) and have translated works by Canadian writers Vivek Shraya and Kai Cheng Thom. They have lectured, performed and exhibited their work internationally. Find them on social media @kamalamackerel
Writer, painter and scholar, St茅phane Martelly was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Through a profoundly transdisciplinary approach, she confronts theory, critical reflection and art in her work. She has published poetry and children's tales. Her pictorial works are showcased in the digital art book Folie pass茅e 脿 la chaux vive (Madness spent in quicklime) (Publie.net, 2010).
Her scholarly work notably includes working in the Montreal-based Life Stories Of Montrealers Displaced By War, Genocide And Other Human Rights Violations as a researcher and coordinator. Her recent publications are La Maman qui s鈥檃bsentait (Vents d鈥橝illeurs, 2011), Inventaires (Triptyque, 2016), L'enfant gazelle (Remue-M茅nage, 2018) and Comme un trait / Le fil d'or et d'argent (livre d'artiste, 2022).
Since 2019 Martelly has held the position of Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in the Department of Arts, Languages and Literature at the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec.
