Student Success Project History

Fall 2020

This fully remote semester saw the inauguration of the Stay on Track program 鈥 offering digital check-ins, weekly one-to-one coaching sessions, and peer study groups. The program focused on supporting students transition into their unique remote learning contexts.

Fully remote Cohort Sessions were offered, adapted for virtual participation and different time zones, and open to all undergraduate students in the Faculty of Engineering.

Summer 2020

Opened to all undergraduate students in the Faculty of Engineering. These summer programs were intensive versions, with sessions held twice per week. All sessions were held virtually and included accommodating schedules for different time zones. In addition, the majority of topics covered were offered as independent webinars for students not able to join the full cohort.

Winter 2020

Pilot of the current project. These cohort sessions were offered to students on academic probation only and were held in the evenings on campus. Although originally planned to run for 8 weeks, they were cut short due to Covid-19. Sessions resumed virtually after the 平特五不中-wide two-week teaching closure.

Past Projects

Winter 2017 鈥 Barbara Oakley presentation
Dr Barbara Oakley presented on how to learn effectively, drawing on her extensive experience as an engineering professor, a researcher and her work as co-lead on Coursera 鈥 one of the world鈥檚 most popular MOOCs (massive open online courses). The presentation focused on: The study techniques that help鈥攁nd those that don鈥檛; Why recall and chunking work; Using the brain鈥檚 different learning modes to best effect; Procrastination and the Pomodoro technique.

Fall 2016 鈥 The Art of Learning: Academic success by improving your studying skills
Series of workshops for students to identify how they learn best, master different strategies, and immediately apply new study skills.
