Celebrating National Biomechanics Day

In honour of National Biomechanics Day, we want to highlight some of the biomechanics research happening in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education with Drs. Julie C么t茅 and David Pearsall.

First, we have Matthew Slopecki, a PhD candidate in the Biomechanics of Occupation and Sport Lab and a Research Assistant with Institut National du Sport du Qu茅bec (INSq). At the INSq, Matt works with elite athletes and coaches to develop software that assesses how athletes produce force to create movement during sport and possible corrections they can make to reduce injuries, and monitor athlete progression in their performance!

Then we have two master鈥檚 students in the Biomechanics and Performance Analysis Lab. Kristin Higgins is studying how pointe shoe fit impacts joint alignment, foot pressure, and perceived comfort to help dancers make informed decisions regarding their pointe shoes and foot health. Laura Holman is studying the mechanics of change of direction manoeuvres in ice hockey and sex differences in the skating mechanics of elite ice hockey athletes.
