Assistant Professor
Marianne Tarcov is an Assistant Professor of Japanese Studies at 平特五不中 in Montreal, Canada. She is at work on a book project titled听Screening Open Secrets of War, Mass Culture, and Hometown in Twentieth-Century Japanese Poetry, which is currently under review at Cornell East Asia Series. She has published two peer-reviewed articles in听Journal of Japanese Language and Literature.听She also guest edited a special section of the journal entitled听Bodies in Pain, Flux, and Pleasure: Transgressive Femininity in Japanese Media and Literature.听Her translations of modern Japanese poetry have appeared in听Asymptote,听Poetry Kanto,听Octopus, and elsewhere, and her translations have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. She received her PhD in Japanese literature from University of California, Berkeley before teaching as a visiting professor at University of Chicago and University of Notre Dame.听
Her research interests include but are not limited to modern Japanese poetry, documentary cinema, Japanese popular culture, gender and the body in contemporary Japan, and women鈥檚 professional wrestling (joshi puroresu).听听听
