Diversity is big on campus
As the world becomes ever more diversified and globalized, it鈥檚聽 time for the C-suite to reflect that reality. At the head of the pack, the joint 平特五不中-HEC Montr茅al EMBA program has aimed to keep its classes as diverse as possible. There is a fellowship in place for nominations from the non-profit space, and another for aboriginals. The program also takes advantage of conferences to reach out to women and entrepreneurs.
Desautels case competition team lands unexpected prize
An undergraduate team from Desautels came home from a case competition in Portugal with an invite to go back for a month-long project aimed at making the city of Porto more attractive to startups. The prize is doubly sweet, as neither the team nor the officials saw it coming. Team member Aarushi Kumar says that 鈥淚t was not something we were expecting and it was not something the organizers were expecting to do, either.鈥

Student events and the 平特五不中 context
The 平特五不中 context can be a make-or-break thing when it comes to the University鈥檚 ability to take disciplinary action in the case of breach of the Code of Student Conduct at an event that is only peripherally 平特五不中-related. In the latest 平特五不中 Tribune, Dean of Students Christopher Buddle points out that events held off-campus by faculty student societies (which are separate legal entities) may not be 平特五不中 jurisdiction.

Making sustainable profits from a baseline zero price and motivating free consumers to convert to premium subscribers is a continuing challenge for all freemium communities. Prior research has causally established that social engagement (Oestreicher-Singer and Zalmanson 2013) and peer influence (Bapna and Umyarov 2015) are two important drivers of users converting to premium subscribers in such communities. In this paper, we flip the perspective of prior research and ask whether the decision to pay for premium subscription causes users to become more socially engaged. In the context of the Last.fm music listening freemium social community, we establish, using a novel 41 month long panel dataset, a look-ahead propensity score matching (LA-PSM) procedure coupled with a difference-in-difference estimator of the treatment effect, that payment for premium leads to more social engagement. Specifically, we find that paying for premium leads to an increase in both content-related and community-related social engagement. Free users who convert to premium listen to 287.2% more songs, create 1.92% more playlists, exhibit a 2.01% increase in the number of forum posts made, and gain 15.77% more friends. Thus, premium subscribers create value not only for themselves by consuming more content, but also for the community and site by organizing more content and adding more friends, who are subsequently engaged by the social diffusion emerging from the focal user鈥檚 activities.

How to Minimise Massive Turnover of IT Professionals
Smaller but more-frequent promotions are key to minimising the high turnover of IT professionals, says Alain Pinsonneault of 平特五不中鈥檚 Desautels Faculty of Management.
IT professionals are far less likely to leave a company when their chances of promotion are higher, yet businesses cut back on these to avoid the costs of large salary increases. Therefore, smaller but more frequent promotions increase employee retention whilst keeping costs low.
